GADA was honoured to also have the participation of the He4She Ambassador for Cross River State, the Paramount Ruler of Obanliku, Uchua Amos Item Unyimumla.
The residential training workshop was implemented in two phases. Phase 1 had twenty-five (25) participants from Calabar Municipal and Calabar South LGA, while Phase 2 had seventeen (17) participants from Obanliku LGA. Each workshop lasted 4 days and participants were trained on
several topics such as Violence Against Women and Girls, Sexual and Gender Based Violence, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Female Genital Mutilation, Child Marriage, Forced Marriage, Mental Health, Values Clarification, Assertiveness, Public Speaking, Negotiation Skills, Prevention of Pregnancy and Safe Motherhood.
The aim of the training was to equip and empower young people with adequate and relevant information and skills for social change in line with GADA’s commitment to promote peer influence as an effective and sustainable mechanism for positive change. This approach empowers young people who are often not prioritized to participate in discussions and activities that directly affect them, to build their confidence and realize their potential to become role models and change-makers. Trained participants will be engaged in various activities in their communities in the near future.
